Social Media: Bridging The PR/Marketing Gap?

Social MediaPR News just posted an interesting article concerning the PR vs. Marketing war. Which side should handle a company’s social media? Naturally, both claim the right to this territory but could it ultimately lead to their union?

The article points out that as social media  becomes more prevalent, the communication divide is blurring. Social media responsibilities are being dispersed evenly between PR and marketing. Companies trying to resolve the issue are noticing PR works nicely when aligned with other functions (Go figure, right?).

Regardless of any stance on social media or integrated marketing, it’s nice to see PR being recognized for its strengths. If social media is truly breaking down organizational barriers, then I’m all for it.
